The retro-cool musical production “Shag with a Twist” brings its groovy vibe, swinging music and sophisticated dance to the James R. Armstrong Theatre in partnership with Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation (TOCA), for three performances Oct. 25 and 26.
A musical murder mystery set at a 1960s Tupperware party, “Shag with a Twist” serves up an evocative cocktail of music, color and choreography that brings to life the campy, hip artwork of Josh “Shag” Agle while capturing the carefree spirit of a retro era where big hair, zoot suits, Tupperware parties and pupu platters were at the height of fashion.
As if immersed in a cartoon come to life, audiences can expect a zany plot, outlandish characters and vividly colored costumes and sets, plus a catchy swing music soundtrack and creative dance choreography.
Some of Shag’s most beloved characters come alive in a colorful cocktail of song and dance, where true-crime podcasters Twinkie and Bun are determined to unravel the infamous case of the Tupperware Party Killer.
With a perfect blend of humor, suspense, and musical numbers, "Shag with a Twist” promises an unforgettable and entertaining evening.
Get ready for a great party as the cast takes you on a journey through this retro-cool murder mystery filled with vibrant characters, captivating performances, and a distinct flair for style.
Choreographer and Director Cindy Bradley, along with renowned artist Shag, have united their talents with composers Chris Lang and Cesar Benitez to create a thrilling Broadway-style show that combines mystery, music, and dance.
Prior to each performance there will be a tiki party with tiki drinks, so come dressed in your most stylish Tiki apparel or embrace the elegance of midcentury chic and prepare yourself for a Shag-tastic experience!
Performances of “Shag with a Twist” are Friday, Oct. 25 at 8 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 and 8 p.m.
