CAGES: A NEW MUSICAL popped up on my social media and captured my attention.
The style of the show looks stunning and the fact that it’s a musical makes it even more fantastic.
In a dystopian city, where emotions are forbidden and everyone’s hearts are locked in cages, Woolf discovers music and sets out on a surreal journey through the prism of emotions in order to write a symphony powerful enough to make the world feel.
Not knowing exactly what to expect, I was curious enough to try and find out.
Stages productions have always had their appeal, but Woolf and the Wondershow Theatre’s CAGES: A NEW MUSICAL will try to enhance the theatre experience.
“Expect to leave Los Angeles and be fully immersed in the world of Anhedonia for the evening. Expect a stage show and cocktails like nothing you have ever experienced before. CAGES is a seated, two hour musical. It’s loud, it’s intense and it’s unlike any musical you have seen before. Before the show there is a cocktail hour where you can roam around the space and be brought deeper into the world by actors roaming around.”The doors open at 6:45 p.m. and there’s an hour to allow those in attendance to get comfortable with the location.
At 7:50 p.m. the show starts and for two hours the audience sits through the experience.
“Aside from the genre bending songbook by CJ Baran and Ben Romans all presented in 19.1 surround sound by L’ Acoustics, CAGES utilizes a patented hologram technology that blurs the line between live actors and CGI.”At 10 p.m. the audience can get a cocktail, at THE CHEMIST tavern, based upon the emotion you’d like to feel.
These emotional cocktails are prepared with spirits, herbs, and botanicals by mixologists.
“CAGES is an emotional journey. You will feel, you will reflect, you will encounter parts of yourself you may have forgotten. While many do come to see the show solo, it’s also a great date night or group event. Our lobby bar, CHEMIST, serves up cocktails by meticulous mixologists where guests order based on how they want to feel. Drinks use spirits, herbs and botanicals to help promote those feelings.”This sold me and since my birthday is coming up, I will be treating myself to the show.
